A real "third way" budgeting approach, Part 2

The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Lori Sturdevant, in an inexplicable fit of good sense, spend some time talking with Annette Meeks, 2010 candidate for Lt. Governor and Founder of the Freedom Foundation of Minnesota.  Looking beyond the current budget impasse, the column discusses the need to redesign government, picking up on the themes I develop on Part 1.

The concept is that conservatives and liberals should find common ground in seeing the need to fix government delivery mechanisms that no longer work.  If we can limit the cost, and find betters ways for government to function, both sides should be happy.

Some choice quotes from the column,

"But I nod in agreement when I hear [Meeks] and other GOP leaders say something that too many DFLers only whisper: Today's government structures and policies were built for a world that is rapidly disappearing."

"Spending is scheduled to outstrip revenues as far as state forecasters can see -- even if the shutdown ends with permanent corrections for the $5 billion forecasted deficit. (And it won't.)"

"Meeks, a former staffer to House Speaker Newt Gingrich, is one of a goodly number of seasoned government hands from both parties who have been touting "redesign" as the solution to what ails the public sector."
