The Decline and Fall of Los Angeles, Part 1

Joel Kotkin has a great piece in today's Wall Street Journal on "How Los Angeles Lost Its Mojo" (subscription only).  Once a great economic and industrial powerhouse, government policies have chased away much of the industry, a great deal of the economy, and now, many of the people.  If you suspect that "smart growth" lurks amongst the culprits, you're right.  But the problems often begets the solution, as this quote shows, from Ron Kaye, former editor of the Daily News, based in the San Fernando Valley,

"There are the places [the Valley] that reflect the whole idea of L.A., as opposed to the [Mayor] Vilaraigosa vision of a city of apartment dwellers."

Keep fighting back!
