That's the AP headline now linked on Drudge. Rural America is not disappearing, it's still there, but with fewer people. In 1910, rural America housed 72 percent of our total population, now we are down to 16 percent. The share of Americans living in suburbs is at an all-time high of 51 percent. We are a suburban nation.
It seems likely that this population shift has had profound implications for our society and our economy that we do not fully understand.
