Follow the Money: Oops, They Did it Again

The Minneapolis Star Tribune published another story by Dan Haugen at Midwest Energy News.  The article appears as straight news, on page D5 of today's business section.

As you recall, Midwest Energy News is a program of RE-AMP, a initiative lavishly funded by some of our nation's largest philanthropic foundations and operated by the Minnesota-based environmental advocacy group Fresh Energy

The article reports on how profitable to energy utilities the state-mandated energy efficiency programs have become.  Generous, ratepayer-funded incentives have allowed utilities to develop their conservation programs as profit centers.  No report on how customers feel about this development.

Also unreported is how Midwest Energy News' parent was the organization lobbying for these policies.

So we have an advocate journalist reporting on how well the policies pushed by his advocate group paymaster are working out.  No conflict there.
