The Independent Contractor Nation: The American Dream Reborn

Over at New Geography, Joshua Wright looks at the growth of the self-employed/independent contractors as a share of the workforce.  As a "1099" worker myself (named after the ubiquitous IRS form, I see this phenomenon as part of our nation's future.  To borrow from Walter Russell Mead we are evolving from a nation of Jeffersonian Yeoman Farmers, owning their own land, to a suburban nation, owning their own homes, to a "1099 Nation" owning their own businesses.  And it is a good thing.
