The horizontal drilling technique which revolutionized the natural gas industry in North America and gave rise to the oil boom in the Bakken Formation (ND and MT) is spreading to oil patches in the rest of the continent. Projections of 2 million barrels a day of production, if they come to pass, would rival the production from the Gulf of Mexico. The AP is on the story.
